News coming out of Costa Rica is that Real Salt Lake's star striker Alvaro Saborio is going to miss the world cup due to a fractured fifth metatarsal. He fractured his fifth metatarsal during training on Thursday at the pre World Cup camp for Costa Rica in San Jose. He will return to his club in the next few days and be evaluated but the Real Salt Lake training staff he is expected to miss 3 to 4 months with this injury. With this injury RSL is getting thin in their strikers with Saborio, Joao Plata -- who is out with a re-injured hamstring --, & Robbie Findley -- who is just coming back from off season knee surgery. Hopefully RSL can find a way to have one or two of their strikers back, but for the meantime they only have the young striker, Olmes Garcia.

Wow! The 23 man roster for the US has been announced. This is very early. The roster was due on June 2, 2014. The big shock is that Landon Donovan was left out (pictured below). Another big shock is that DeAndre Yedlin being called up as a defender for the World Cup. The last two shocks are Julian Green and Aron Johannsson. All the rest of the squad is same as usual.

The insight about Landon Donovan is that Jurgen Klinsmann said, "I just see some other players slightly ahead of him.” Klinsmann added that this was the hardest decision of his coaching career.
